Baklava is not the easiest dessert to make but it is worth the effort.
10 servings, cooking time: 40 mins + 6 hrs.
What you need:
500g of phyllo pastry
100g honey
250g walnuts
50 g sugar
130g butter
What to do:
1. Melt the butter. Line a rectangular tin with parchment and grease with butter. Set aside some walnuts for decoration. Coarsely chop the remaining nuts and sugar in the blender.
2. Place 6 sheets of pastry on top of each other in the mold, buttering each sheet. Then spread half the nuts, then stack 4 sheets of pastry on top, then spread the remaining nuts and stack 7 more sheets of pastry on top, making sure to grease them with butter.
3 Cut the baklava into squares with a sharp knife and bake at 170 C for 15 minutes, then turn down the temperature to 150 C and bake for another 20 minutes.
4. Bring the honey and 100ml water to the boil over a medium heat for the filling, cook for 5-7 minutes. Pour over the baklava and leave to infuse for 6-8 hours.
