Khmeli Suneli – Georgian Spice Mix

Khmeli Suneli , also known as the Georgian five spice, is a condiment blend that is both spicy, aromatic and nutty. Due to its aroma and taste, it is suitable for almost any dish: sauces, salads, soups, stews, pastries, rice, any kind of protein, as well as pickled vegetables, marinades and Georgian snacks.

Khmeli suneli is a mixture of:

  • ground fenugreek seeds
  • coriander,
  • dill,
  • dried celery,
  • parsley,
  • basil,
  • summer savory
  • black peppercorns.

Khmeli suneli is very fragrant. Its color is light green due to fenugreek, coriander and all herbs.

Some people prefer to cook a simplified version of the spices, simply based on what they have on hand.

For a simplified version of the KhmeliSsuneli spice mix, you will need: fenugreek, thyme, coriander, basil, dill, bay leaf, dried celery, mint, marjoram, parsley, savory (or you can use oregano if you don’t usually keep savory in your closet for spices), red chili and saffron.
