How to make golden milk?

For one serving of the magic drink, you’ll need a teaspoon of turmeric powder, half a teaspoon each of ground cinnamon (you can substitute one cinnamon stick) and ginger (powder or grated root), pounded cardamom seeds from 5-6 boxes, a pinch of ground black pepper, a teaspoon each of honey or maple syrup and a glass of milk (about 230 mg). For full authenticity it is advisable to take vegetable milk – soya milk, coconut milk, walnut milk, but regular cow’s milk will do.

Mix all the ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to the boil and turn down the heat so that the mixture simmered gently. Boil for about 5 minutes until the milk is a uniform golden colour and the exciting aroma of the spices spreads through the kitchen. Strain the mixture and drink either straight away, or cool and place in the fridge where it can be stored for a few days. As a rule, golden milk is drunk hot, but some people also like it very much when it is cold.

How much should I drink to have maximum effect?

The most valuable ingredient in golden milk is curcumin. A standard teaspoon of ground turmeric contains 200 mlg of curcumin, and experts recommend 500 to 1000 mlg of this natural medicine daily for a real anti-inflammatory effect. Accordingly, three cups of golden milk will suffice.

This drink is not recommended for pregnant and hepatitis patients. 

Many health professionals also advise making a tea of turmeric powder – 2 teaspoons of powder per 4 cups of hot water and the rest to taste. But golden milk is much cooler and tastes better.
